Investor Urges Cambodia Justice Ministry to Act in YY Capital Case
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — A shareholder in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has called on Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice to intervene in a growing dispute with the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei. In formal letters to authorities, the investor alleges serious financial misconduct, including embezzlement, fraud, and breaches of trust, claiming substantial personal losses.
The investor’s letters accuse Yamada, a Japanese national, of manipulating real estate transactions in Cambodia by inflating purchase prices. Preliminary investigations suggest that roughly $4 million may have been misappropriated for personal use and for the benefit of others linked to the transactions.
According to the letters, the alleged wrongdoing also includes fictitious business deals, loan agreements totaling over $7 million, document forgery, and large-scale diversion of funds through shell companies connected to Yamada and his associates. Some of the diverted money is reported to have been transferred to an overseas account held by Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.
The letters further allege that Yamada established multiple shell companies across Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Cambodia, using nominees while retaining direct control over the associated bank accounts and financial operations.
In Cambodia, prosecutors have reportedly filed charges in at least two criminal cases involving Yamada and others, with court orders freezing certain assets and accounts. Additional investigations are ongoing, with authorities in several countries—including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States—examining allegations of embezzlement, money laundering, document forgery, and breach of trust.
The investor urges Cambodian authorities to ensure a comprehensive and impartial investigation, warning that suspects could otherwise attempt to evade justice, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
YY Capital Partners and Yamada Taihei have not publicly responded to the allegations.
